Baptiste Chrisostome

Estudiante en prácticas at Yumping.fr (11/2023-05/2024)
As a gap year student, I joined Yumping in November 2023 as an intern in the content department of the French platform. I am learning to master the secrets of our leisure and adventure activities to help write our website. In addition to creating new content, I update and optimize existing content. From time to time, I am also the discreet pen that writes our press releases.

School curriculum

After a literary preparatory class, I did a double degree in economics and geography at the Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne and now I am a master's student in International Affairs and Development at Dauphine-PSL. I took a gap year to gain experience, see this eclectic career path more clearly, and help me choose the major I want to pursue in my final year.

Professional experience

In high school, I used to help my self-employed father take care of his social media and communicate with his clients. He I have always loved writing, whether on a post-it or a thesis! Through summer jobs in clothing stores and the classic odd jobs of student life, I ended up embarking alone on the adventure of settling in Madrid, discovering my Spanish roots and doing my first writing internship at Yumping.

Experience in adventure sports

I grew up in a sports house: my father is a mountain bike and Basque pelota instructor, and I practiced judo, tennis and dance for several years. I spend all my holidays by the sea, which gives me time to try many water activities. A big fan of paddle surfing and kayaking, I prefer the tranquility of a bay to the swell of the waves. My most sensational experience? Surely the baptism of paragliding on Mont Baïgura that I did when I was 17 years old.

Questions for Baptiste Chrisostome about Yumping

What are the three adventure activities you should do at least once in your life?

Maybe one day I'll go skydiving, I've always dreamed of doing it, but I've never dared yet! I am used to indoor rock climbing, on boulders, and I would love to try it outdoors on an impressive cliff or in the Pyrenees. The activity that I recommend to everyone is paddle surfing. It is the ideal means of transportation to explore a river, a bay or even catch some waves, and the one that has accompanied me the most on my travels.

What activity or sport would you like to practice as an instructor?

Surfing, of course! I grew up in the Basque Country, but I have never touched a board, although I spend all summer on the beach in Biarritz... I promised to learn to surf next summer, that's all, apparently it's easier than it seems. What attracts me most to this sport is the feeling of freedom it provides and the feeling of belonging to the surf culture in general. You will always find someone on the beach who will kindly give you some advice.

What activities do you recommend doing in your hometown?

At the risk of repeating myself, surf! I grew up in Anglet and, if you are a beginner, our beaches are quieter than those of Biarritz and are full of schools where you can take some courses. But the star activity of the Basque Country is pelota: a dozen different disciplines that immerse you in the local heritage and introduce you to an original instrument in each session. It can be practiced freely in all the neighborhoods and towns of the town, in open areas called frontons.
