Built in the 12th century, the Thoronet Abbey is a true jewel in the heart of the Mediterranean forest. With Sénanque and Silvacane, they make up the three Cistercian abbeys ofProvence.
Classified as a historic monument, the Abbey is rich with an architecture based on construction techniques austere and ancestral , as well as unique acoustics which attracted and inspired many personalities, including Le Corbusier who visited it in 1953.
Upstream of the village of Thoronet, in the Var, the monument was the ideal place of residence, for many centuries, for strong>monkswho wished to distance themselves from any distraction or temptation.
Alloy of stone and light, the Abbey benefits, thanks to its architecture from another time, of quality acoustics, which already allowed at the time, to improve and propagate the magnificent chants of the monks. Since then, and until today, the place has continued to be a place for concerts and events for this same reason.
The provencal historical monument constitutes a very interesting and historical visit for a place which represents its period of so unique and complete way!
