The mechanical hub of St-Amand
The Colombiers track was created in 1960, under the impetus of motorsport enthusiasts, such as Amaury Duvauchel and André Tagot.
On May 20 and 21, 1961, the 24 hours of Saint Amand were organized. The drivers, among whom was a certain Jean-Marie Balestre, and the crowd responded massively to the call of the organizers. From every point of view, the organization was impressive at the time. From the massage rooms for the runners, to the show village, all the ingredients necessary for the success of the race were there.
The event had an unprecedented impact for the capital of Boischaut. However, the expenses were just as grandiose as the organization and the club had difficulty making up the deficit of the event. Despite everything, if the Saint-Amandoise activity was slowed down, the club's drivers did not fail to shine in France and even beyond.
In the 1970s, the Saint-Amand circuit sank somewhat into oblivion despite the organization of automobile slaloms. At the end of the decade, a new team took control of the circuit. However, the modernization of the site only took place timidly. The track at the time, 427 meters long, however hosted the central league championships, but its pretensions were limited to these modest events. It was only at the end of the 1980s that the project for the new circuit began to appear.
The new route was then able to hostprestigious competitions: French Championships, Jean-Philippe Laborde International Trophy, Challenge Alazard and even European Championships. Building on these successes, the St Amand Colombiers circuit was entrusted with the Junior European Championship in 2001, where future motorsport talents were showcased.
