The snowshoe has always been used by the peoples of the North for their movement on the snow. Its utilitarian practice continues particularly in Canada for winter hunting. In Europe, after having been supplanted by skiing, it experienced a new boom from the 1970s: it opened up the winter mountain environment to hiking.
Easy to learn, snowshoeing is a fun activity. You just need to love walking to appreciate thebeauty of the winter landscapeor the sensuality of the powder. However, snow requires increased physical effort, complicates orientation, and makes safety issues more acute, particularly in the face of the risk of avalanches.
